My sixth observation – ESL Conversation club class

I observed another conversation club. The teacher centred the class and created an activity around a popular TV show. It was a great topic because almost all the students were acquainted with it. It got the students engaged and excited. They shared their inputs on who their favourite character was from the show and who would they want to meet if they were given the chance. It allowed them to tap into their imagination and share their fantasies with the rest of the class. The teacher supervised the activity very well and allowed free flowing conversations. Students were asked one by one to describe each character, and the teacher engaged each one in a dialogue, encouraging them to expand and assisting them with vocabulary where needed. Some of the students were reluctant to speak but the teacher without adding to much pressure gently reminded them to turn on their microphones and speak a sentence or two. Students also spoke at different levels within the class, and the teacher was able to make changes and later things as class went on. This was an extremely fun class and the teacher made sure that everyone got a turn to share talking about this famous TV show.
