We arrived at day four of our lesson and by now there were some feedback given to us by our sponsor teacher as far as conducting these lessons, and abiding by the curriculum was concerned. We always received feedback after every class but this was beginning to arrive at that crucial juncture where any corrections, adjustment, changes were to be taken into account and modified accordingly. We tried to incorporate more activities because one thing Katie and myself were still struggling with was student engagement. There was initially a healthy dose of engagement which started waning as we dived into the curriculum. We found a lack of participation from a few students, especially during group activities in breakout rooms and lack of engagement, sometimes even as a whole class. We tried incorporating light-hearted ESL activities that were more visually appealing and more ‘action’ based. Because all of these lessons were conducted via video it was difficult to get students up and about from time to time. One activity that worked very well was the usage of interactive whiteboard to draw and miming which invited a lot of laughter from everyone involved.
